Day 2 - POPP Mission

Today's main activities consisted of orientation and visiting the Mission.

The bus rides to and from the Mission were eye-opening. First of all, Peruvians do not stop for anyone when you're pulling out of a building in a bus full of 40 high school missionaries. They just drive around you; whether the driver is on a bike or a metro bus is not relevant. Secondly, the cheap but well built man-made shelters, stray dogs, and unorganized garbage bags along the side of the road were all there, as we had seen through various pictures. This is also the stuff documentaries show, but seeing it first-hand is a totally different and enlightening experience. To compare this way of life with what is back home in America is truly a blessing.

The Mission houses many little girls. We were able to meet and play volleyball with them. They were shy, but the smiles of these elementary girls from ages 6 to 13 or so showed their enthusiasm to be there with us. We all had a great time connecting with the 15 girls who were around, and I think they felt the same way about us.

Tomorrow will bring new experiences as we start with our mission projects. Please continue to pray for us as God has a great plan for our trip, and it has started off on a good note.
